How To Pray For Your Husband {The Prayer Series}

When my husband and I first got married everything was great. We were a phenomenal couple and we would never disagree. (sarcasm) Honestly, there were things about him that I thought if he could just change, we’d be so happy. Maybe you can relate… After a few years of wishing, I changed up the way I prayed for my husband and it changed our entire marriage!

When you’re dating men are so attentive and talkative, but it seems like once they’re comfortable that starts to go away and you’re talking to yourself more than you’d like… When this happened early in our marriage, I remember thinking, “If he would just…..”, a lot.

Fast forward to when we had our first child, I started reading the Bible every night. Through reading my Bible, I realized that it was I who needed to change. My prayers for my husband to change were being heard, but there was sin separating me from God. I was so focused on my husband’s faults that I wasn’t seeing my own or the harm I was doing.

How to use the bible to pray for your husband

In my nightly time with God, my eyes were opened to a whole new way of praying for my spouse. God showed me how He would pray for him. God loves us so much He sent his Son to die for our mistakes, so we could be restored to Him. So, He showed me that I should be praying for my husband with the same unconditional love.

Our earthly love usually comes with a lot of conditions… We love someone that we feel an equal give and take with. And when that take becomes more than their give, we are less than infatuated.

God’s love for me and my husband doesn’t have those conditions.

Verses to pray over your husband

Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Genesis 2:24 WEB

Here, God is telling me that I need to love my husband as much as I love myself or how I would pray for myself. Before, my prayers for my husband were selfish desires for what I wanted from him. Now I know to pray he fulfills God’s path for his life.

And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 WEB

This Bible verse reminds us, wives, to keep loving him. I can show Him the love of Jesus, even when his love feels conditional.

The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:11-12 WEB

All of Proverbs 31:10-31 is magnificent for us wives. In fact, I like to read about the Proverbs 31 woman once a month. I know a lot of women are intimidated by this perfect woman mentioned, but I am inspired by her. This is God explaining what the Bride of Christ is like. Lord, help me to be like her! Example of praying for your husband using bible verses

Dear Lord, show me Your intense love for my husband. Show me how You seek him and his heart. Fill me with mercy for him, today. Jesus, I ask You for respect for him. I know that is his love language and I need to get to a place where I really respect him again.

You have called me to be a faithful servant for You; inspire me to serve my family. With Your help, I can do this! I know You are ready to move in me. Amen.

Pray that God shows you how to pray for your husband

We live in a time where everyone loves love but they hate marriage. Marriage is hard and you deserve better, so just quit. That seems to be the motto. God loves marriage and thought very carefully about placing us with our spouse.

Tune out the current culture and turn up the Bible app. Ask God for help softening your heart as you pray over your marriage. He is quick to help those who humble themselves before Him.

As I read the Bible after my daughter was born, it was very clear to me that I was separated from God by sins I hadn’t repented for. Once I asked Him and those people I had sinned against for forgiveness, my heart started to change.

It changed in all relationships. I humbled myself in His name before Him and before others. It wasn’t easy but it was essential.

Praying for Your marriage

You and your spouse were put together for a reason. His reason. God has a purpose for our marriages.

Maybe your purpose is to have children and to raise them into little leaders for His glory. Maybe the purpose of your marriage is to inspire others to seek a God-fearing spouse. Or maybe the purpose of your marriage is to fight hard for your marriage so that when your friends are ready to give up, you can encourage them to fight hard for theirs too!

Fight for Him and fight for him.
