I used to think, what’s the point, I’m not going to understand it anyway… Sound familiar?

After my daughter was born, I decided that I was going to read the Bible every night, for her. I wanted to commit to that for her, to be a better mom. I knew the Bible was powerful, because I had personally seen how it had transformed my parents’ relationship.

My parents are HUGE role models in my life and in my walk with Christ. There isn’t a day that I am with them that we don’t discuss the LORD. I want that for my kids in our home, too. And here are their pretty faces đŸ™‚

If you are worried about grasping what your Bible means, I am here to help in any way I can. Everyone can grow, no matter how many times they’ve read the Bible. That is the best part about God: He is always teaching us something. We will never be done getting to know Him!

I am by no means an expert, but I have come to know ways in which to point you! I will be discussing different tips, tricks, and resources to help you! So here are a few tips to understand your bible:

1. Do You Have the Right Bible?

My Bible growing up always seemed like I was reading from something three grades above my comprehension. I am sure it wasn’t, but that’s the way I felt. Maybe someone here can relate…

Recently, I did a Bible review… I wanted to find the best Bibles for Women, Best Bibles for Men and Best Bibles for children of all ages and levels of understanding. Below you can find my list of Bibles based on what you’re looking for!

Finding a Bible for where you’re at and the right reading comprehension level is huge! So take heart, it’s not you, it could be your Bible.  đŸ™‚

How to Read the Bible Tip: Another great help is reading your Bible’s footnotes and the preface to each book of the Bible! There are a lot of details in there you don’t want to miss. They help set the stage for each book.

In addition, there is a resource that really helps you interpret each book. It is called Know Your Bible: All 66 Books Explained and Applied. This book helps you understand what was happening at the time each book was written.

***Note: Here is the Bible I read from every night!

2. How to Read the Bible Daily

Daily reading is a really important aspect of our lives. There are a lot of distractions that take our eyes off God. Therefore, it is easy to become distracted by social media and get lost in our wants and wishes.

God calls us to not want things of this earth, but to focus our attention and time on Him. He will fill us up more than social media anyway. Even if you read just a little bit each day, you will see growth!

Praying for wisdom and understanding before opening your Bible is another great way to get the most out of your reading. He will help you focus and get what message He is needing you to hear most, because He’s cool like that! đŸ™‚

The Journey

My best friend’s grandma always used to say, reading the Bible is something you do for a lifetime. You never stop, it is a journey to become more like Him.

4. Find a Bible Study

I don’t think I am biased when I say this – I have the best Bible study ever! It is so wonderful because I learn from new believers, all the way to seasoned Bible scholars – every week!

This year, I joined Bible Study Fellowship International and it was such a good idea. It couldn’t have come at a better time. The information I learn, in just one week of Bible study, is something I wouldn’t have learned in years of reading the Bible on my own.

So why Bible study fellowship?

You too can join a BSF near you! Each week there are notes, chapters to read, questions to answer, lecture and a small Bible study group for learning with others.

The one thing we don’t always understand when reading is the traditions of biblical times. Since we aren’t really understanding the context in which the Bible was written, it is easy to get confused. In joining BSF, you hear about the traditions and where they stem from. This also makes remembering the stories and people in the Bible much easier.

I would seriously urge you to find one near you, click here to join – also free!

Encouragement

Lastly, I want to be here as your support staff as you study the Bible, or even open the Bible for the first time ever! I am pumped about any willingness to learn more about God! AND SO IS HE!

Prayer

Dear LORD, I thank you for the person reading today and their willingness to seek You. Please, lead the way for them as they are wanting to know You more. Place people in their path that know You so they might gather more information about who You are and how much You love them! Help them to feel comforted as they go about their day and their work. I thank You, LORD for them, Amen.

Sometimes, we forget how much God loves us. I find that Bible verses around my house and workspace help. You can download my Free Bible Verse Printables here!

If Peaches & Prayer inspires you to encourage a friend to read their Bible, I want to hear about it! I share how God gave me my passion and purpose in life here.
